The Organization is a multinational global organization based in Dubai, UAE. It is a cargo transportation firm that also offers port terminal processes, water transportation, and free trade zones. DP, which was established in 2005 by the merger of Dubai Ports Authority and Dubai Ports International, handles 70 million containers decided to bring in by approximately 70,000 vessels each year. This corresponds to about 10% of worldwide container traffic, which is managed by their 82 marine and inland terminals distributed across 40 countries. Their was largely an international freight operator until 2016, and since that time it has purchased other enterprises at various points in the value chain.

DPI was established in 1999. First ever project was in Saudi Arabia, in which it started working with a local partner to operate and manage the South Container Terminal (SCT). then they expanded its activities to Djibouti in 2000, Vizag in India in 2002, and Constanta in Romania in 2003. They purchased CSX World Terminals in January 2005. (CSX WT). Later, in September 2005, Dubai Ports Worldwide and the Dubai Ports Authority combined to create DP. In March 2006, DP paid £3.9 billion for the 4th biggest port provider in the world, P&O.
